Job Summary:
The Quantity Surveyor at our engineering consultancy is responsible for accurately estimating the costs of construction projects, tracking project expenditures, and managing project budgets. This role is essential for cost control and ensuring projects are completed within budget constraints.
Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects, including materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses.
Quantity Take-off: Perform quantity take-offs from construction drawings and specifications to determine the required materials and resources.
Budget Management: Develop and maintain project budgets, monitoring and controlling costs throughout the project lifecycle.
Tendering and Procurement: Assist in preparing tender documents, evaluate contractor bids, and provide recommendations on contractor selection.
Cost Analysis: Analyze project costs, identify variances, and recommend cost-effective solutions to mitigate potential overruns.
Contract Administration: Administer construction contracts, including payment certification, change order management, and valuation of work in progress.
Progress Reporting: Prepare regular reports on project costs and financial status, providing stakeholders with accurate and timely updates.
Value Engineering: Identify opportunities for cost savings through value engineering and alternative design solutions.
Quality Control: Verify that construction materials and workmanship comply with the quality standards set by the project specifications.
Risk Management: Assess and manage project risks related to cost, contractual, and financial aspects.
Client Communication: Maintain effective communication with clients, addressing cost-related queries and concerns.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or a related field. Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in construction, engineering, or consulting roles. Proficiency in quantity surveying software and construction cost estimation tools.
Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and project management.
Analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work in cross-functional teams. Project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Familiarity with construction contracts and procurement processes.
Awareness of construction cost trends, market rates, and industry standards. Financial acumen and the ability to work with project accounting systems.
